"Aoterearoa" is the Maori word for New Zealand, meaning "Land of the Long White Cloud." I bid a sad farewell.
Sue Spigel, from Christchurch, New Zealand, has been creating extraordinary quilts for many decades. For many years, she created technically perfect quilts, using purchased fabrics. She later hand-dyed and hand printed her fabrics, continuing to refine her skills.
In recent years, Sue has become more interested in using natural days and hand stitching. These quilts are both subtle and strong, making a statement about our environment and how we use our resources.
Amazing paintings of the New Zealand flax plant at the Milford Galleries in Queenstown.
Sue Spigel is an incredible quilt artist and tour guide extraordinaire. Our travels are filled with art talk and New Zealand lore. Such very special days!
