Jackie's teaching and craft development work enabled her to travel to many places, including Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the United Kingdom, and Central America. Jackie felt that these journeys had a profound influence on her work and on her life.
The Aboriginal use of sand, and the Australian sunburned colors of ochre and red had a strong influence on her work. Jackie's pieces spoke of the women she encountered, particularly in Ghana, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. Their fabrics, colors, and cultures informed the vessels she created. Jackie learned to simplify things, to let the forms and the materials speak for themselves.
